About Bangkok International Associates

Bangkok International Associates was founded in 1988 as the Thailand branch office of Australian law firm Freehills by a group of foreign and Thai lawyers.

We specialize in representing foreign companies investing in Thailand, and foreign companies or foreign – Thai joint ventures operating in Thailand. We are able to deal with corporate and commercial law, joint ventures, banking, debt restructuring, taxation, labor, commercial and residential property, intellectual property, telecoms, IT, e-commerce and litigation. We have 16 lawyers, with additional accounting, IT and office staff.

Stephen Frost

was born in 1952 in Hertfordshire, England. He was educated at the College of Law, London, and qualified as a solicitor in the UK. He has lived in Thailand for many years. He previously worked with Lovells, Mongkolnavin Law Office and First Bangkok Law & Practice. He specializes in corporate and commercial law, M & A, due diligence on Thailand companies where the overseas parent is conducting an IPO or debt issue , joint ventures, banking and security, commercial and residential property, employment, and telecommunications, IT and e-commerce. He has been involved in many international takeover transactions in a diverse range of industries, and cross border loan transactions and security. He also spent one year outside law, working in the the Business Development Division of Central Group, the largest retailing group in Thailand.

He has written and lectured in Thailand and overseas on many aspects of Thai law, including: doing business in Thailand, foreign business ownership, foreign property ownership, international loan transactions, joint ventures, cross border lending and security, tax on M & A transactions, unfair contract terms, property, employment, retailing, and telecommunications, IT and e-commerce.

He is a director of the British Chamber of Commerce in Thailand, Chairman of the Legal and Taxation sub-committee, a member of the Property and Infrastructure and Events sub-committees, and also a member of the European-Asian Business Centre Advocacy Committee. He writes regularly for the BCCT website and magazine and for Asia Watch magazine published by CCH. He edits the Thailand legal pages for an international information website. He wrote the Thailand section in two encyclopaedias: Employment Law Asia and Financial Reporting Asia Pacific, and the Thailand chapter in books on: telecommunications, equity markets, defamation, competition and mergers, enforcing foreign judgments, international commercial litigation, companies and partnerships, wills and probate, and limitation periods in contracts. He has been editor of the Thailand Business and Legal Guide published on the BIA website since 2003. He lectures at meetings of Asia Business Forum and Dataconsult Thailand, and also to final year law undergraduates at Chulalongkorn University.

He joined Bangkok International Associates in 2003.

Sathien Hemsin

Sathien (Dennis) Hemsin

was born in 1978 in Bangkok. He received his Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of New South Wales in 1999 and his Bachelor of Law degree from the University of Sydney in 2002. He is admitted as a solicitor in the state of New South Wales, Australia and is a member of the New South Wales Law Society. He started working in Sydney, Australia and moved to Thailand in 2004.

While working in Thailand, he also studied for his Thai law degree at the same time and completed his second Bachelor of Law degree at Chulalongkorn University in 2010. He specializes in corporate and commercial law, joint ventures, investment law, real estate, land development, hotel/resort and condominium law, and property funds. He has been involved in various acquisitions of hotels, resorts, condominiums, office buildings and many hotel and residential development projects. He has written various articles on property law in Thailand and is a member of the Franco-Thai Chamber of Commerce. He is fluent in French, Thai and English. 

He joined Bangkok International Associates in 2007.
